Our proposal for this “Vai-te cuca”, our second album, goes hand in hand with the pedagogical project we have been developing this past year, namely through the launch of the Escola de Musica Traditional Portuguese Cardo-Amarelo (School of Traditional Portuguese Music Cardo-Amarelo) and the artistic and educational work we have developed with the communities of several Portuguese villages. Throughout this process, we were able to confirm there was a high level of mistrust and disinterest for the knowledge of the traditional cultural heritage which, in our perspective, is reflected in many crucial aspects of our existence as people, as cultural identity and even morally.
As parents, educators and teachers, we know how fundamental the repercussion of a solid education, rich and full of possibilities, that stimulates our children to become cultured and intelligent human beings; we also know that a large portion of that education depends on the immediate family. In this light, it is also admitted that it is not always easy to have time or be creative in the offering of resources to the young. We believe in the importance of encouraging the creation of new family activities, in strengthening bonds and complicities, reminding parents and grandparents that an entire cultural heritage exists and can be shared. It will always be valuable to have, in the future, knowledgeable adults who are proud of their cultural identity.
We have chosen for this album a musical collection with simple lyrics and accessible to the comprehension of the public of all ages (not all originally for children and avoiding some existing prejudice), on which we made arrangements that intensify the differences and result in songs more attractive to the entire family.
We hope this album brings joy to your everyday life, that it fosters a more frequent musical practice and that it arouses the urge to learn more about Portuguese traditional culture.
